Some people have a genetic vulnerability to sleep apnea. There are three main types of sleep apnea: hyperventilation-recomposition syndrome, deep-sleep apnea, and partial-ventilation sleep apnea. This is the most common form of sleep apnea.
Hyperventilation-recomposition sleep apnea causes your breathing to become rapid, shallow, and labored. It also causes you to slow down your breathing, especially during the night. Deep-sleep apnea causes you to breath in slowly and often, making you feel very tired. This can also cause you to breathe very shallowly. When your breathing becomes too shallow, your airways constrict to make your airway too narrow, which may cause a blockage.
How is my snoring treated? Your snoring can be treated using medicines, which you can buy over-the-counter or at a doctor. You may be given medication to take throughout the night, like acetazolamide, a drug that is prescribed to relieve symptoms of asthma and colds. It is also possible to have your snoring treated at a sleep clinic.
