8th FEBS Young Scientist Forum - YSF2008

"Cell Harmony"

In cooperation with IUBMB

June 26-28, 2008
Hotel Poseidon Resort ***** Loutraki, Greece

Dear Young Scientists,

On behalf of YSF2008 Organizing Committee, it is our great pleasure and honour to announce the 8th FEBS Young Scientist Forum, in collaboration with IUBMB, which will be held from 26th to 28th of June 2008 in Loutraki, Greece.

Over one hundred participants (100 from FEBS organization and 25 from IUBMB) from all over the world are going to attend the forum. The YSF2008 organizers are cordially invited you to participate at the YSF2008 “Cell Harmony” and are looking forward to welcoming you in Greece.

Young Scientist Forum

The Young Scientist Forum (YSF) was firstly established by FEBS in 2001 aiming to provide Ph.D. students and young postdoctoral fellows of the FEBS Society with opportunities to meet and make friends as well as to discuss scientific topics, career development and future collaborations in a friendly and informal environment.  Preceding the annual FEBS Congress, YSF is traditionally organized by local Ph.D. students and postdoctoral fellows. YSF is a satellite meeting constituting a hallmark of the annual FEBS Congress. Since the FEBS congress is this year also an IUBMB conference, 25 young Ph.D students and Post-docs from non-European countries will fully participate in this event.

Young Scientist Forum 2008 “Cell Harmony”

Since YSF2008 will be held in Greece, birthplace of the ancient philosophy, eternal crossroad of three civilizations and active player in the diffusion of knowledge, the YSF2008 Organizing Committee has decided to entitle this symposium with world-wide used Greek words.

Therefore, we eventuated in “Cell Harmony”. Ancient Greeks were in constant pursuit of the comprehension of harmony, present in the physical Universe, as well as the realization of harmonical creations throughout the fields of art and science. Heraclitus saw harmony as an inherent quality of Cosmos. Pythagoras recognized harmony in mathematics and music and Hippocrates, the founder of medicine, believed that illness was the result of an imbalance of bodily fluids.

This title includes diverse scientific fields that should harmonically interact to reveal the secrets of cellular function or malfunction. The term “Harmony” further corroborates the need for teamwork and collaboration to achieve desirable results, either in the molecular or in the macromolecular level.

The YSF2008 will be a two-day symposium with pioneers and distinguished plenary speakers, selected Ph.D. students and early postdoctoral fellows delivering short oral presentations on their research topics along with poster presentations delivered by the rest participants during the afternoons. YSF2008 will be held between 26th and 28th of June, 2008, in Hotel Poseidon Resort in Loutraki, Greece.

Given that FEBS is dedicated to promote the interaction between Ph.D. students and young scientists, the Organizing Committee of the YSF2008 proudly announces that grants for all accepted participants will be awarded. Furthermore, all YSF participants will also attend free of charge (registration fee plus accommodation) the subsequent 33rd FEBS Congress and 11th IUBMB Conference "Biochemistry of Cell Regulation", that will be held from June 28th to July 3rd, 2008, in Athens, Greece.

The YSF2008 Organizing Committee promises that we will make every possible effort to offer you an exciting symposium that will exceed your expectations. We are looking forward to receiving your application and to  welcoming you in Greece!
